Day 01: Volcanoes National Park

On the first day of your 6-day Rwanda safari, you’ll start your journey from Kigali to the Volcanoes National Park. Along the way, you’ll pass through beautiful rolling hills and local villages. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check in at your lodge, settle in and have a relaxing evening.

Day 02: Volcanoes National Park

The second day is the highlight of your Rwanda trip as you will embark on an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. You’ll set off early in the morning, after breakfast, to track one of the gorilla families in the park. The trek can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas on that day. Once you find the gorillas, you will have an hour to observe them in their natural habitat. The experience is simply awe-inspiring, and you’ll never forget it.

Day 03: Optional Activities

On this day, you have two options for activities to choose from. You can opt to go for a golden monkey trekking experience or hike to visit the Dian Fossey tomb and research center. Golden monkey trekking is an experience that offers a unique opportunity to see the beautiful primates. The trekking takes around 2-4 hours, and you’ll get to see other wildlife such as birds, butterflies and even some elephants. Alternatively, you can hike to visit the Dian Fossey tomb and research center, where you will learn about the life and work of the American primatologist who spent years studying mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

Day 04: Volcanoes National Park - Lake Kivu

On this day, you will drive to Lake Kivu, one of the Great Lakes of Africa, nestled between the mountains in the western part of Rwanda. Upon arrival, you’ll check-in at your lodge and spend the rest of the day enjoying the scenery, relaxing at the lodge or taking part in some water activities such as kayaking, swimming, and boat rides.

Day 05: Lake Kivu - Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, you’ll drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of the oldest and most pristine rainforests in Africa. The park is home to over 13 species of primates, including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and mangabeys. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check-in at your lodge, have lunch and then proceed for a guided forest walk to spot some of the primates.

Day 06: Nyungwe Forest National Park - Kigali

On the final day of your Rwanda safari, you’ll drive back to Kigali, but not before visiting a local community project. Here, you’ll learn about the social and economic challenges that local communities face and how the project aims to address them. After the visit, you’ll continue your drive to Kigali, where you’ll have lunch and then head to the airport for your departure flight. Alternatively, you can opt to visit the Dian Fossey tomb and research center if you missed it earlier in the trip.
